Sacred Paradox and Productive Contradiction

Sor Juana's theological and philosophical writings frequently hold contradictions in tension: faith and reason, obedience and intellectual freedom, Catholic doctrine and indigenous cosmology, feminine submission and intellectual authority. Rather than resolve these into false harmony, she allowed them to generate new insights. Her approach reflects a profound epistemological principle: authentic understanding sometimes requires holding paradox rather than eliminating it.
