Flowing Value Without Intermediaries

How blockchain enables value to move like water—following the path of least resistance without dams or gatekeepers—embodying Taoist principles of natural flow.

Laozi
Why It Matters

The Tao Te Ching celebrates water: it flows to the lowest places, nourishes all life, and cannot be stopped because it has no resistance. Blockchain technology recovers this natural flow of value. Traditional finance interposes intermediaries—banks, payment processors, clearinghouses—that obstruct, delay, and tax the flow. These institutions create artificial scarcity and control. Smart contracts and decentralized protocols allow value to move peer-to-peer, following economic gravity without friction. A farmer in Kenya can receive remittances without Western Union's fee; a creator can earn directly without Spotify's middleman extraction. This isn't anarchic chaos but nature's order reasserting itself. Laozi would recognize this as the Tao working through technology: removing obstacles allows proper function to emerge. When humans stop trying to control every transaction, markets become more efficient, fairer, and more alive. Decentralized finance (DeFi) attempts to recreate banking's functions—lending, exchange, insurance—without the institutional dam, letting capital flow to where it creates most value.
