Water is Laozi's supreme metaphor for the Tao: it flows around obstacles rather than fighting them directly, yet eventually wears stone away. Platform activism faces constant resistance—algorithm changes, account suspensions, content moderation—requiring activists to embody this principle. Rather than organizing solely through flagged platforms, movements create distributed communication strategies: encrypted channels, temporary collectives, cultural symbols. Rather than declaring themselves overtly, movements communicate through coded language and cultural references that algorithms cannot easily categorize. This isn't deception but adaptive flow—understanding that rigid structures invite rigid response, while flexible movements persist. Laozi teaches that the rigid tree breaks in the storm while the flexible bamboo survives. Digital activists apply this by maintaining multiple communication channels, embracing ephemerality, and avoiding single points of failure. The practice becomes almost martial-artistic: meeting resistance with strategic yielding that redirects force rather than absorbing it.
