Some regions accept higher temperatures where heat-tolerant components operate; others maintain cool conditions where needed. This variation, allowed naturally, consumes less energy than uniform cooling. The paradox manifests clearly: highly controlled, precisely-uniform data center environments cost more to maintain than those accepting natural variation within safe operating ranges. Laozi teaches that the soft, receptive approach achieves more than force. Cooling that works with gravity, convection, and thermal gradients rather than imposing mechanical uniformity exemplifies this wisdom.
