Returning to Root: Full Node Sovereignty

"Returning to the root" is returning to simplicity and self-sufficiency. In Taoist philosophy, this means each being sustains itself rather than depending on intermediaries. For blockchain, running a full node embodies this principle: individuals verify transactions and rules themselves rather than outsourcing trust to exchanges, custodians, or light clients. This is radical: most Bitcoin users never run nodes, trusting others to validate the chain. But the option for full node sovereignty exists. Laozi would recognize this as returning to roots—an individual possessing the tools for complete self-verification, independent of institutional gatekeepers. Full nodes are computationally simple by design: intentionally minimal requirements so regular people can run them, maintaining Pu's principle of elegant simplicity. The decentralization vision realizes itself when individuals actually exercise this power, creating networks of distributed verification rather than broadcast audiences. Not everyone needs to run nodes—but the possibility must exist and be practically accessible. When full node operation requires expensive hardware or technical expertise, the system slides toward centralization. Returning to root means ensuring the path to sovereign verification remains open to ordinary people.
