Timing and Technological Readiness

The right technology at the wrong time fails; Laozi's emphasis on timing reveals when AI tools truly serve versus merely distract.

Laozi
Why It Matters

Laozi repeatedly emphasized that timing determines outcomes. A seed planted in winter dies; the same seed in spring flourishes. Similarly, adopting AI tools requires attending to readiness—both personal and organizational. Many teams deploy AI solutions before developing the discernment to use them well, leading to chaos and disenchantment. True timing asks: Do we have clear problems that demand AI solutions, or are we adopting because vendors market urgency? Have team members developed the wisdom to evaluate outputs critically? Does our workflow infrastructure support integration? The Taoist sage observes when conditions naturally align before acting. This doesn't mean waiting passively; it means actively preparing conditions while remaining patient about deployment. Rushing AI adoption creates technical debt and eroded trust. Conversely, excessive caution leaves real opportunities unexploited. The master recognizes the moment when AI tools meet genuine readiness—when the student becomes prepared for the teacher, when the field is fertile, when resistance transforms into receptivity.
