Ananya-bhakti, or undivided devotion, is the bhakti principle of offering your whole being to what matters most. Mirabai exemplified this: she withdrew her energy from social performance and royal obligation and devoted it entirely to her spiritual longing. This was not escapism but a radical reallocation of life force. When you grieve a lost identity, you often have tremendous energy bound up in that former self: the habits of thinking and being, the roles that structured your days, the people who knew you in that way. This energy can either remain frozen in grief or be consciously redirected. Ananya-bhakti invites you to ask: toward what do I want to direct my deepest devotion now? Not as a distraction from grief but as a completion of it. What calls to you with the intensity that your former identity once did? By gradually and consciously redirecting your life force toward this new focus—whether it is a spiritual practice, a creative endeavor, a way of loving, or a truth you wish to serve—you transform grief into purposeful energy. The former self is honored and released not through forgetting but through conscious reinvestment of your whole self.
