Freedom as Letting Go

The liberation of detachment from outcomes, reframed as the freedom to love what cannot be saved.

Mira
Why It Matters

Mirabai's life exemplified radical freedom—freedom from social convention, from family duty, from the need for approval. This freedom was not rebellion for its own sake but the precondition for devotion. In anticipatory grief, freedom means releasing the grip on outcomes we cannot control. This is not passivity but the opposite: the energy previously spent fighting reality becomes available for presence. When we stop demanding that civilization be saved, we become free to love it, learn from it, and shepherd its transition with dignity. Mirabai teaches that true freedom is not the absence of constraint but the voluntary release of illusions that no longer serve. In a collapsing world, this freedom becomes our most powerful resource—the ability to act without requiring success, to grieve without requiring cure.
