Prema: Love That Burns Through Identity

Prema is the Sanskrit concept of transcendent, selfless love that Mirabai embodied through her devotion to Krishna. Her love was so consuming that her former identity—her status, her marriage, her social standing—dissolved entirely. This concept explores how overwhelming love can erase who you were, sometimes tragically, sometimes beautifully. The grief here is complex: you mourn the self that could love many things, pursue many paths, hold multiple identities. When love becomes your sole identity, everything else dies. Mirabai danced in ecstasy; she also lost everything.
