Mirabai surrendered completely to her devotion while simultaneously maintaining fierce sovereignty. She refused her husband's demands, defied her family's expectations, and risked her reputation and safety for her truth. Secure attachment requires this paradox: the willingness to be vulnerable and open combined with unshakeable clarity about your non-negotiables. Many people collapse into either rigid self-protection (avoidant) or self-abandonment (anxious), believing these are the only options. Mirabai shows a third way: complete openness within strong boundaries. This means choosing partners who respect your sovereignty, who welcome your wholeness rather than your diminishment, who understand that your commitment to them includes commitment to yourself. This framework prevents both isolation and enmeshment.
