Speaking to the Beloved Within

A practice of communicating to the highest self in your partner, calling forth their best even in conflict.

Mira
Why It Matters

Mirabai spoke to the divine in Krishna, even when disappointed or angry. She addressed not only his failings but the eternal beloved within him. This reframes how we communicate: rather than attacking your partner's flaws, you speak to the highest possibility they contain. In difficult conversations, this means: "I know you're capable of better than this. I've seen your kindness. Where is it now?" versus "You're cruel and selfish." Speaking to the beloved within doesn't deny problems; it refuses to reduce your partner to their worst moment. Mirabai's practice assumes that people contain multitudes—possibility and shadow simultaneously. When we communicate from this assumption, we activate the beloved within our partner rather than triggering their defensive self. This is not naive optimism but a communication strategy rooted in faith. It says: I see you more fully than your reactivity. I'm calling you back to yourself. This approach transforms conflict from mutual diminishment into mutual elevation, creating space for genuine repair and renewed intimacy.
