The sacred clown's mischief serves awakening: by violating the expected, the proper, the 'correct,' we jolt people out of autopilot. This requires discernment—mischief motivated by genuine compassion and clarity differs from harm motivated by shadow material. When the sacred clown breaks a boundary, they do so in service of revealing what the boundary conceals. This might mean speaking the unmentionable, acting in a way that embarrasses social pretense, or treating the sacred as mundane and the mundane as sacred.
