Confucian ethics asks how the person of good character cultivates virtue within relationships and institutions. Applied to technology, the question becomes: what does this tool do to the relationships and the character it mediates? A tool that makes you more impatient, more isolated, or less capable of ceremony is not ethically neutral, regardless of what it produces.
