The data we generate in life does not die with us — it persists in servers, in platform archives, in corporate databases that have their own interests in what to do with it. Decisions about who can access this data, and for what purpose, are being made by platforms and legal systems that are mostly not thinking about the dignity of the dead. This is a frontier of privacy ethics that is only beginning to be examined seriously.
