False information has always been part of human communication; what is new is the scale and speed of its distribution, and the algorithmic amplification of whatever provokes the strongest reaction. Disinformation spreads not primarily because people are foolish but because the systems reward sharing before verifying. The infrastructure of untruth is worth understanding.
