Laboratory tests and reading your results

Laboratory tests give numbers, and numbers require context — a result outside the reference range does not automatically mean disease, any more than a result within range guarantees health. Understanding what a test measures, what influences its value (time of day, food, exercise, stress, medications), and how to read trends rather than single data points transforms laboratory data from anxiety into useful information. Most clinicians welcome patients who engage meaningfully with their results, and increasingly, digital tools make it possible to understand your numbers before you arrive at the appointment.
