Money and mental health

Financial precarity is among the most reliable generators of psychological suffering — not because money is the source of well-being, but because its absence removes the conditions under which well-being is possible. The relationship runs in both directions: mental distress impairs the decisions that produce financial stability. You cannot think your way out of a material problem, but neither can you solve a material problem if your thinking is in ruins.
