The secular person without a framework of transcendence must make sense of legacy within a single lifetime — and this is both a liberation and a challenge. Without the comfort of continuation beyond death, the question of what to leave becomes more urgent and more honest: not reward but gift, not personal survival but genuine contribution. The secular legacy tradition is young and still finding its language, but its honesty about mortality may be one of its more useful qualities.
