Taxes are the price of living in an organized society — the portion of individual gain returned to fund the conditions that made the gain possible. The philosophical question worth asking is not whether you prefer to pay less, which is universal, but what you believe you owe to the common life that sustains you. Navigation within the law is prudence; contempt for the principle is a different matter.
