There is a form of you that cannot be left — that exists only in the living of it and disappears with you entirely: the specific quality of your attention, the exact texture of your experience, the particular way the world looked through your eyes. This is the portion that cannot be transmitted, and meditating on it is one of the more clarifying things a person can do. What remains is the impression you made on others; what is carried away is the experience of being you, irreplaceable and unrepeatable.
