How do I carry this much weight without breaking?

You did not choose this weight because you are careless. You chose it because you understand what is at stake. A person's years. A person's family. A whole life, bent by what you decide, argue, or overlook. That understanding is right. But it has grown into something else. You believe that if you do not carry all of it, all the time, you are failing them. Look at what is actually within your power. You do not control the docket. You do not control the backlog, the law, or how many cases land on your desk this month. You control what you do with the file open in front of you right now. Everything else is noise dressed up as duty. If the weight has become sleeplessness, dread, or thoughts you cannot quiet alone, that is not weakness. It is a signal. Talk to someone trained to help carry it — not just a colleague carrying the same load.

This problem is less about facts you lack and more about the daily choice to act on what's actually yours to control, so guidance leads.

What’s really going on

You cannot carry every case at once, and trying to is not diligence — it is a refusal to do the one thing in your power: the case in front of you, done well, today. Sleep is not the enemy of justice. Exhaustion is. Choose the next right action, then rest.

🔒 What you’ll build togetherUnlock by starting
A movePick one case, right now, and work only that one until it is done or the day ends.
A moveAt day's end, write down what you actually did — not what's left undone — and let that be enough.
A moveSet a hard stop each night. Close the file. Choose sleep on purpose, the way you choose your arguments.
A moveSeparate what depends on you from what depends on the system. Stop rehearsing what you cannot change.
A moveWhen a case haunts you at night, ask: did I do the work honestly today? If yes, put it down. If no, fix it tomorrow — not tonight.

What changes unlock by starting

  • You finish each day knowing what you actually controlled and did.
  • You sleep more nights than you don't.
  • You stop mistaking exhaustion for virtue.
  • You keep doing the work without it hollowing you out.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
