How do we get known for the right thing, together?

Your team can list five things you're good at. That is the problem. Five strengths said out loud become no strength at all in the mind of anyone listening. You did not fail to find the right words. You failed to agree on which true thing to leave out. Every person on your pod has a favorite angle, and you let them all speak at once. This page will not hand you a clever phrase. It will make you choose, together, what you stand for — and hold that line when it gets boring to repeat.

Positioning is simple to explain but hard to practice as a group, so most of the work here is doing, not learning.

What’s really going on

You are not known for what you intend. You are known for what you repeat in public, together. Pick one thing. Say it the same way, every time, as a group. Stop adding the other true things that confuse the signal. Clarity is a choice you make daily, not a slogan you write once.

A moveGather your pod and write down every claim each person makes about the group's value — then cross out all but one.
A movePick the one true thing your harshest critic would still grant you, and build your position there.
A moveAgree on the exact words you'll use, and forbid variations for ninety days.
A moveAssign one person to say 'that's not us' whenever the group drifts back to the old scattered story.
A moveTest the position on a stranger. If they can't repeat it back in one sentence, it isn't clear yet.

What changes unlock by starting

  • Your team agrees, without hedging, on the one thing you're known for.
  • You stop competing with your own teammates for attention with different messages.
  • Outsiders can repeat your position back to you correctly, unprompted.
  • You say no to work that fits the old scattered story but not the new clear one.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
