I drew my line at work. Why does holding it feel so heavy?
You've looked at your work plainly and found lines you will not cross again. Most people never look that closely, or they look and then convince themselves not to see it. You saw it. That matters. But naming a line and holding a line are two different labors. The naming happened once, in a clear moment. The holding happens again and again, often with no one watching, no one applauding, and sometimes at real cost to you. That is where most people quietly give the line back. This page will not tell you to feel better about it. It will help you hold what you already decided, one test at a time. If the weight of this ever feels like more than you can carry alone, say so to someone you trust — carrying it in silence is not a requirement of integrity.
You already did the hard part: you looked honestly and named what you won't do. Now comes the harder part — holding that line daily, often alone, in a place that may never thank you for it. The weight is not proof you chose wrong. It is the cost of the choice. Pay it on purpose.
