My welding skill is wrecking my body — what now?

You can weld anything, in any position. That is not nothing — it took years. But your eyes strain, your body aches, and you have kept working anyway, because stopping felt like weakness or like letting the crew down. The problem is not that you worked hard. The problem is that no one built a system to protect you while you worked hard. You poured everything into the weld and nothing into the plan for what it costs you. You cannot undo the years already spent. You can decide, with the people beside you, what happens to the years still ahead. That decision is in your power today. Use it.

The core failure is behavioral — no shared limits, no rotation, no honesty about cost — so coaching toward action matters more than teaching new facts.

What’s really going on

You did not choose one bad day. You chose, shift after shift, not to stop. That choice is still yours to make differently. The work will never set your limits for you — your pod must set them, out loud, together, starting with this shift, not the next one.

A moveTell your pod this week, plainly, what pain or strain you are carrying — before it stops you, not after.
A moveBuild a rotation with your crew so no one person holds the hardest position shift after shift.
A moveSet one hard limit before work starts — a position, a time limit, a stopping point — and hold each other to it without apology.
A moveTake the real cost to whoever assigns the work. Bring numbers and hours, not complaints.
A moveIf pain or your vision is already bad, see a doctor now. This page is not that. Go.

What changes unlock by starting

  • Your pod catches strain early instead of discovering it as injury.
  • The hardest positions get shared, not dumped on whoever is 'best.'
  • You have a limit you actually use, not a poster no one reads.
  • You keep doing the work you're good at, for more years, not fewer.
