The Money Is Great — So Why Can't I Remember What I Wanted?

You did not get trapped. You traded, and you got paid well for the trade. That is not the same as being forced — stop telling it that way. The handcuffs are gold because you keep polishing them. Nobody checks your account balance for you before you remember your own name. You do that. Your pod is making the same trade, probably for the same reasons, probably in the same silence. One person alone will always find a new excuse to stay one more year. Say the real thing to each other, now, before the next raise buys your silence for another year.

They already understand the trap intellectually; the real work is saying the quiet part out loud together and testing one decision against it.

What’s really going on

The handcuffs are not the company's — you fastened them yourself, one pay cycle at a time. The money did not replace what you wanted; it replaced your habit of asking. Say out loud, today, with whoever is in this with you, what you wanted before the number became the only goal.

A moveTell your pod the exact number you are afraid to walk away from — not a round one, the real one.
A movePick one decision due this month. Decide it by the old want, not by the salary.
A moveAsk each other: what would you do tomorrow if the pay were cut in half?
A moveSet a date, out loud, to check this again — before the next raise arrives and buys your silence.

What changes unlock by starting

  • A written sentence of what you actually want, separate from the paycheck.
  • One decision this month made by something other than the money.
  • Your pod knows the real number, not the polite version of it.
  • A set date to check in again before the next raise changes the subject.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
