Why am I exhausted from being on call for everyone?
You call yourself indispensable. Look again. You have made yourself available at every hour, and now you mistake that for being valued. It is not the same thing. A person who can be reached at any moment has not proven their worth — they have simply removed every boundary that would have protected it. The tiredness you feel is not evidence that you are needed. It is evidence that you have set no edges. No client decided this for you. You decided it, by answering fast every time, by never once saying "tomorrow." They learned what you taught them. This will not fix itself. No one above you will hand you a boundary. You must build it, state it, and hold it when it is tested — because it will be tested, by the very people who benefit from you having none.
You are tired because you let others treat your availability as free. No one made that rule — you did, by answering every time. You can hold the biggest accounts and still choose your hours. The relationships will survive limits. Your exhaustion will not survive the absence of them.
