Why can I pose a character but not make it feel alive?
You can bend a body into any shape. A knee, a hand, a tilt of the head — these obey you. But the moment you try to put a real person behind the pose, you freeze, or you fake it. Everyone in the room can tell. This is not a drawing problem. It is a trust problem. Somewhere you decided your own fear, your own want, your own boredom, was not interesting enough to lend to a character. So you borrow a mask instead of giving your own face. Your pod does this too. Watch how often the group reaches for a trope instead of a truth. The fix is not more reference images. It is a decision, made daily, that what you actually feel is usable material. Say that out loud to the people working beside you. Let them hold you to it.
The pose costs you nothing. Personality costs you something — a piece of your own life, offered up and judged. You stop at the surface because you haven't decided your inner life is worth that risk. Decide it, in front of your pod, and the skill follows.
What changes unlock by starting
- You stop reaching for a trope the moment you have nothing real to say.
- Your pod calls out 'surface' honestly, and it stops feeling like an attack.
- You produce fewer poses, but more of them carry real weight.
- You notice the fear before it stops you, not after.
