Why can't I get my model into production and keep it there?

"Production" sounds like one task. It is not. It is dozens of small jobs — training, packaging, deploying, watching, fixing. When you treat it as one giant task, of course it overwhelms you. No single person holds all of that in their head at once. So you wait. You wait until the whole system feels safe and finished. It never will. Or you ship once and call it done. Then it breaks quietly, weeks later, while you are not watching. Both are the same mistake. You are treating this as one event, not an ongoing duty. The real work is not glamorous. It is checking the same small things again and again, on a schedule you set. That is the whole craft. Choose one small thing to own today.

The blocker is less about missing technical knowledge and more about the paralysis of treating many small jobs as one impossible task, so coaching the breakdown matters more than teaching the technology.

What’s really going on

You are not failing at machine learning. You are failing to name who owns each step — training, deployment, alerts, response. Break the work into parts. Pick one part you control today. Do that one thing well. The rest is not yours to fix this morning.

🔒 What you’ll build togetherUnlock by starting
A moveWrite down every step between 'model trained' and 'model running for real users.' Do this today, on paper.
A movePut one name next to each step. If no one owns it, write your own name there.
A moveShip the smallest working version this week. Not the whole system — the smallest piece that works.
A moveSet one alert that tells you when it breaks. Just one. Not ten you will ignore.
A moveBlock ten minutes each week to check if it still works, before it breaks.

What changes unlock by starting

  • A written map of every step from training to running in production.
  • One small piece shipped and working this week, not someday.
  • One alert in place that tells you the truth when something breaks.
  • A weekly ten-minute habit of checking, instead of waiting to panic.
