Why do I feel like a cog even though I'm hitting every target?

You are not lazy or ungrateful. You can hit every number on the sheet and still feel like a tool someone else is using. That feeling is not weakness. It is accurate. A cog does not choose its speed. The anxiety about 'climbing out' is a trick. It points you at some future escape — a promotion, a new job, a windfall. It asks you to wait for that. Waiting is not within your power. What you do with the next hour is. So stop asking whether you'll ever get out. Ask what you control today, inside the machine you're in. That question has an answer. The other one doesn't — not yet, maybe not ever. You can't afford to spend your days waiting on it.

What’s really going on

The targets are not the problem. You hit them and still feel used because you never chose them — someone else did. Your anxiety is not about the grind. It is about control. Find one thing today you can decide for yourself, inside this job. Then do it.

🔒 What you’ll build togetherUnlock by starting
A moveWrite down three decisions in your workday that are fully yours — no approval needed. If you can't find three, find one.
A moveChoose one task today you'd normally do on autopilot. Do it with your own standard, not the minimum.
A moveStop measuring your week only by targets hit. Add one line each day: what did I choose today, not just complete?
A moveName the actual exit you want — a different role, company, or craft. A vague wish to escape is not a plan.
A moveSet aside one hour this week for that exit. Research it, have the conversation, write the draft. Not someday — this week.

What changes unlock by starting

  • You'll see where you already have more choice than you admit.
  • The anxious feeling will narrow from 'my whole life' to one concrete next step.
  • You'll stop waiting for permission to start building your way out.
  • You'll know within weeks whether the exit is real or an excuse you've been protecting.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
