Knowledge + Guidance

Why do I freeze when I have to design a solution for a customer?

You know the product. That was never the problem. The freeze comes later — when a real customer describes their real, messy situation, and you try to hold their whole world and your whole product in your head at once. No one can do that. Not you, not anyone. This is not a knowledge gap. You are not missing a fact or a feature. You are missing a method — a way to move from their words to your parts, one step at a time, instead of in one desperate leap. So stop reaching for more product knowledge. Build the habit instead. It is a short exercise you can do on paper, before and after every conversation, until it becomes automatic.

What’s really going on

You do not lack knowledge. You lack an order. In the room, you try to hold their whole problem and your whole product in your head at once — no one can do that. Write down their exact words. Match one piece of your product to each. Order those pieces by which pain hurts worst. That order is your architecture.

A moveWrite down their exact words for the problem — three sentences, no paraphrase, right after the call.
A moveUnder each sentence, write one piece of your product that answers it. Only one per sentence; if two fit, choose the one that answers the worse pain.
A moveDraw a line from each sentence to its piece. Any sentence with no line is your real gap — not a sign to redesign everything.
A moveOrder the pieces by the pain they relieve, worst first. That order, read straight off their words, is your architecture.
A moveBefore you explain any feature, say their problem back to them in their own words, then give your order. Watch for the nod before you move to the next piece.

What changes unlock by starting

  • You walk into conversations with a method, not a blank page.
  • You can sketch a rough solution in minutes by matching their words to your pieces.
  • You stop freezing because you stop trying to see the whole problem at once.
  • The customer trusts you faster because they hear their own words before your pitch.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
