Why do I keep avoiding my business's taxes and books?

You call it a black box. It is not black — you have simply not opened the lid. Numbers do not hide themselves. You hide from them, because you fear what they might say about your judgment, your discipline, your year so far. This is not really an accounting problem. It is an avoidance problem wearing an accounting costume. A better system will not fix it — you could buy ten systems and avoid all ten. What fixes it is one sitting, done now, with the actual books in front of you. If this fear has grown into something bigger than dread — panic, sleeplessness, a sense you cannot function — that is more than a page can fix. Talk to someone you trust, or a professional, soon.

The obstacle here is avoidance, not ignorance, so the page must push action far more than it explains procedure.

What’s really going on

You avoid it because it stays a feeling, not a task. Turn it into a task. A task has steps; a fear only has weight. Today, open one statement and read one line. Do that before you judge yourself. The dread is in the avoiding, not the numbers.

🔒 What you’ll build togetherUnlock by starting
A moveOpen one statement right now. Don't read it fully — just open it.
A moveSet a timer for fifteen minutes. Sit with the numbers until it rings. Nothing more.
A moveWrite down the three numbers you fear seeing most, then go find them.
A moveBook one hour with a bookkeeper or accountant this week — even just to ask questions.
A moveName which is true today: 'I don't understand this' or 'I don't want to look.' They need different fixes.

What changes unlock by starting

  • You know this month's real numbers instead of guessing.
  • The dread shrinks once the task has a clear shape.
  • You have one concrete next step instead of a vague weight of shame.
  • You stop losing sleep over an unopened envelope.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
