Why do senior, skeptical clients still rattle me?

You know the material. You have said it correctly a hundred times to people who nodded along. Then a skeptical client leans back, or a senior partner asks a hard question, and your voice changes. You start explaining instead of advising. This is not a knowledge gap. You are waiting for their face to tell you that you are allowed to be sure. That is backwards. Their doubt is not a verdict on you — it is just their doubt, arriving before they know you. Your task is not to win them over before you speak. Your task is to speak as the person who already knows, and let them catch up.

You already have the expertise; what's missing is practice holding your own ground, which is trained through action, not explanation.

What’s really going on

You are not rattled by their skepticism. You are rattled because you handed them the power to decide if you're competent. Take it back. Choose your own steadiness before you walk in — don't wait for their nod to grant it. The skill is already yours.

🔒 What you’ll build togetherUnlock by starting
A moveBefore the next meeting, decide what you believe to be true — not what you hope they'll believe. Say it to yourself first.
A moveNotice when your sentence turns into a question at the end. Stop. Restate it flat, as fact.
A moveWhen they push back, count three seconds of silence before you answer. Do not rush to fill it with more explaining.
A moveAfter the meeting, name one moment you shrank. Write the sentence you should have said instead.
A moveStop rehearsing to win their approval. Rehearse the advice itself, alone, until it needs no one's agreement to be true.

What changes unlock by starting

  • You advise instead of explain, even when challenged.
  • A skeptical question feels like information, not a threat.
  • Your voice stays level no matter who is in the room.
  • You walk in having already settled your own worth, before anyone else weighs in.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
