Why do these demands never stop coming at us?

Every day more arrives — calls, messages, requests, complaints. You answer what you can, and still the pile grows. You start to believe the pile is a judgment on you. It is not. A pile grows because people need things, not because your team is weak. You did not sign up to satisfy every person who asks. No one can do that — not you alone, not your whole team together. The wish to disappoint no one is not strength. It is a wish dressed up as duty, and it will exhaust you faster than the work itself. What is yours to control: which requests your pod takes up today, how you divide the work, and whether you tell the truth about what you cannot do. Decide this together, out loud. Act on the decision. Let the rest go.

The core failure here is false obligation and poor division of labor, which calls for direct coaching into choice more than new information.

What’s really going on

The demands are infinite; your hours are not. You do not control how many people ask something of you — only what your pod does with the next hour. Stop measuring yourselves against every request. Choose what matters today, divide it among you, and act. The rest is not yours to govern.

A moveList every demand from the past week. Sort into three piles: must act now, can wait, not ours to carry.
A moveAssign one pile to each person — no one holds all three alone.
A moveSet a fixed weekly time to say 'no' or 'not yet' together, so the refusal isn't one person's burden.
A moveName out loud which requests the pod will drop entirely this week. Say it to each other, not just in your own head.
A moveAt week's end, ask each other: what did we choose, and what chose us instead?

What changes unlock by starting

  • A clear, shared list of what the pod will and won't take on this week.
  • Less private guilt, because the team carries the 'no' together.
  • Faster decisions on new requests, since the sorting rule already exists.
  • A felt sense that the team runs its time, not the inbox.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
