Why does no one notice how much work alignment takes?

Your team closes hard deals without the usual chaos. Legal, product, sales, finance — all moving together, no fires. You built that. And because you built it well, it looks like nothing happened at all. This is the trap. Smooth execution erases its own evidence. When you clear a blocker before anyone feels it, no one learns there was a blocker. Your team gets the win. You get the silence. You cannot control whether others notice your work. You can control whether you show it to them. Stop treating that as bragging. Start treating it as the unfinished half of the job.

The team already knows how to align work; what they lack is the habit of making that work visible, so coaching carries most of the weight.

What’s really going on

Invisibility is not bad luck. It is the cost of doing the job well. You made the friction disappear, so no one saw it existed. No one owes you credit for work they never saw. If you want to be seen, you must choose to show it — before you remove it, not after.

A moveThis week, write down every blocker you quietly removed. Make the friction visible to yourself before you show anyone else.
A moveIn your next team update, name one specific move you made — not just the result. Say 'I caught X before it stalled Y.'
A moveAsk a teammate directly: 'Do you know what it takes to keep this moving?' Then tell them, plainly.
A moveStop shrinking your explanations to save time. Explaining your role is not boasting — it is accurate reporting.
A movePick one recurring friction point. Let the team feel it for a week instead of absorbing it yourself. Watch what they learn.

What changes unlock by starting

  • Your manager and peers can name what you specifically did, not just that things went smoothly.
  • You stop carrying quiet resentment about being the unseen reason nothing broke.
  • Your team learns where the real risk lives, instead of assuming deals move themselves.
  • You build a record of specific contributions you can point to when you ask for more.
