Why does our positioning still look different in every room?

You think the problem is sharpness. It is not. You each privately know what you mean, and you assume the others do too. Then one of you writes a bio, another talks to a client, a third posts online — and three different companies appear to exist. This is not a creativity problem. It is an agreement problem. Somewhere you skipped the unglamorous work of writing it down, word for word, and deciding together that this version — not a better one someone thinks of later — is the one you use. No one in your pod is wrong. You are each filling a gap with your own judgment, because no shared language was given to you. That is fixable this week, not someday.

The team needs a method for building shared language, but the real work is the coordination exercise of actually agreeing and holding each other to it.

What’s really going on

Because you never agreed on the words, only the idea. A team can share a strategy and still describe it five different ways. Choose the exact sentences — not just the concept — and require everyone to use them. Consistency is a discipline, not a talent.

A moveEach person writes, alone, the one-sentence version of your positioning. No conferring. Compare the drafts out loud.
A moveFind the one phrase that appears in nobody's draft but should be in everyone's. That is your gap — name it plainly.
A moveChoose a single approved sentence, a single approved paragraph, and a single approved short pitch. Write them down. Nothing else is official.
A moveAssign one person to audit every public page, bio, and profile against those three approved texts within seven days.
A moveAgree on what happens when someone drifts: who flags it, and how fast it gets fixed. Decide this before it happens, not after.

What changes unlock by starting

  • One written version of your positioning that everyone actually uses, not just agrees with
  • A short list of where your presence currently contradicts itself, with owners assigned to fix each one
  • A simple rule for catching drift before it spreads across more channels
  • Less private irritation at teammates who you felt were 'saying it wrong' — because now there is a wrong to point to
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
