Why does the specialized equipment scare me when the basic work never did?

You already know how to work. You have proven that. What sits in front of you now is not a test of your worth — it is a machine with buttons, and buttons can be learned by anyone willing to touch them. The intimidation you feel is not about gears or dials. It is about being watched while you fumble. You have decided, without saying it out loud, that competence must arrive fully formed or not at all. That is a lie you tell yourself to avoid an uncomfortable hour. You are not alone at this machine. Others on your team have stood exactly where you stand. Use that. A team exists so no one has to learn everything alone or pretend they already know it.

The machine is not the problem. Your fear of looking foolish while you learn it is the problem. Ask someone to show you the controls today, run it once badly with a teammate watching, and the fear loses its power by tomorrow.
