Why haven't I dealt with that problem on my team yet?

Name it plainly: something is wrong on your team, and you have known for a while. A person, a pattern, a fight nobody had. You keep finding reasons why now is not the time. Here is the thing you already know but do not want to say. The situation is not growing because it is complicated. It is growing because you have not stepped into it. Silence is not neutral. Silence is a decision, made daily, to let the problem run without you. You do not need more information. You do not need the perfect words. You need to walk over there, or pick up the phone, and start the conversation you have been rehearsing in your head for weeks.

The person already knows the general shape of what to do; the real work is confronting the avoidance itself and taking the first concrete step, which favors guidance over teaching.

What’s really going on

You are not avoiding the conflict. You are avoiding the discomfort of it. Every day you wait, you choose the false comfort of silence over the real cost of a team quietly getting worse. That is not caution. That is fear wearing a patient face.

🔒 What you’ll build togetherUnlock by starting
A moveWrite down, in one sentence, what you are actually afraid will happen if you address this. Read it back. Ask yourself if it is true or just uncomfortable.
A movePick the smallest true version of the conversation — not the whole issue, just the next honest sentence — and say it to that person within 48 hours.
A moveBefore you speak, decide what outcome is within your control: your honesty, your clarity, your composure. Let go of controlling how they react.
A moveSet a date on your calendar right now for the conversation. Not 'soon.' A day, a time. Treat it like a meeting you cannot cancel.
A moveAfterward, write down what actually happened, not what you feared would happen. Compare the two. Notice the gap.

What changes unlock by starting

  • A clear, honest sentence you can say to start the conversation, instead of a vague dread you keep carrying
  • A specific date and action instead of another week of avoidance
  • Less anxiety, because avoided problems cost more energy than faced ones
  • Evidence, from your own experience, that the feared outcome and the real outcome rarely match
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
