Why is our pipeline a mess every time we forecast?
You call it a pipeline. Half of it is wishful thinking wearing a dollar sign. A deal that has not moved in a month is not forecast — it is a story you tell yourself to avoid a hard conversation. This gets worse with a team, not better. Everyone touches the pipeline. No one owns the whole of it. So each person protects their own deals, and no one cleans the parts that embarrass them. The forecast becomes a pile of private hopes, stapled together and called a number. The fix is not a better tool. You already have enough fields and dashboards. The fix is a habit you keep together, on a fixed day, whether you feel like it or not. Choose the habit. The mess will not clean itself, and no one is coming to do it for you.
Your pipeline is dirty because no one owns the cleaning. Your forecast is false because you count hope, not fact. Fix it together: name an owner for every deal, pick one fixed day each week to review it as a team, and remove anything untouched for two weeks.
