You consume and study but never actually make

This is a subtle trap, because the consuming genuinely feels like progress even as it keeps you from the work. Consuming feels like progress but is not making — there is comfort in the endless preparing, which feels productive and postpones the vulnerability of creating, but no amount of studying substitutes for the making itself, so recognize that your studying has become a productive-feeling way of not making, which will never turn into creating on its own. You learn the craft mostly by doing it — the belief that you must learn more before you are ready keeps you studying, but the real learning comes through the doing and the failing and the discovering what works only by attempting, so you are not as unready as you feel, and the making itself is the teacher you have been seeking. And shift the ratio toward making now — spend less time consuming and more making, tipping the balance decisively toward the doing so making becomes the center and studying the supplement.
