You're terrified to share your work
You have made something, but you are terrified to share it — to show your writing, your art, your creation to anyone. The thought of being seen and judged fills you with dread, so your work stays hidden, private, shown to no one, and you cannot bring yourself to let it out into the world where it might be received.
I wrote in a court where a woman's learning was meant to stay hidden, so the terror of being seen is deeply familiar to me — and I want to help you move through it gently. Sharing feels like exposing yourself because the work holds you — you poured your seeing and inner self into it, so to show it feels like showing your naked self, which is why creative sharing frightens as few things do, and knowing this lets you meet the fear with self-compassion rather than shame. Start by sharing with a few safe eyes — one or two trusted, gentle people, so you learn without the terror of the crowd that your work can be seen and survive it, and let your courage grow from there. And the work completes itself in being received — a made thing is in part a communication, only completed when what you saw is felt by another, so kept forever private it stays half-made, which is a gentle reason to keep moving toward sharing. Who might be your one safe first reader?
