You've built walls so high no one can reach you
You have built walls around your heart so high that no one can get in — to protect yourself from being hurt again after the times you were. And they have worked: you are safe now, and completely alone behind them, unable to let anyone close even when you long for it. The walls that kept out the pain keep out the love too.
I loved with no walls at all and paid dearly for it — so I understand exactly why you built yours, and I will not tell you they were foolish. The walls kept out the hurt and the love both — you built them for good reason and they worked, but walls do not sort what they block, so now you stand safe and alone, protected from the closeness you long for; the safety is real and so is its cost. A wall is not the only way to be safe — there is the safety of choosing well, opening slowly, trusting a little and watching how it is met, which lets you be both open and protected as the wall never can. And lower one stone at a time, with someone worth it — not a reckless collapse but a slow chosen dismantling, showing a little more than is comfortable to one trustworthy person, and if it goes well, another stone. The whole wall came down that way for everyone who learned to love again. What made you build the walls?
