When working style differences lead to avoidance instead of collaboration

My team lead and I have completely different working styles and instead of figuring out how to bridge that we've just started avoiding the friction by not collaborating on anything meaningful anymore. We're both competent but we're basically running parallel tracks and I think we're both relieved but also know it's not sustainable.
