When writing partners disagree about byline credit and compensation

My writing partner and I have been collaborating on articles for three years and lately we've been splitting bylines based on who did more work but we're both keeping score differently and neither of us wants to bring it up because we're afraid it will sound petty. We used to just alternate but now with bigger publications and better pay the stakes feel higher and I think we're both quietly resentful.

What we've seen

You and your writing partner are quietly keeping score over credit, but neither of you will say it out loud.
