When teams claim to be data-driven but consistently ignore inconvenient data

Our leadership team always talks about being data-driven but when the data contradicts what the CEO wants to do we find ways to rationalize why the data doesn't apply this time. I've watched this happen at least six times this year and I don't know if pointing it out will help or just make me the person who doesn't understand strategy.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A group has adopted an identity that sounds rigorous but regularly abandons their stated principles when those principles become inconvenient.
