When NCOs avoid their responsibility to advocate upward for their soldiers

Our NCO corps says we're all about taking care of soldiers but when it comes to actually standing up to officers who make bad decisions that hurt our people, we just complain to each other instead of pushing back up the chain. We've created this culture where we vent horizontally but never challenge vertically and I'm tired of pretending that's leadership.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A group has developed comfortable patterns of lateral complaint that substitute for the harder work of constructive confrontation with authority.
