How to address superficial sharing in peer support groups

Our startup cohort does these monthly check-ins where everyone shares their metrics and struggles but it's become this weird performance where we all try to sound like we're crushing it even when we're not. I know at least three other people in the group are having serious problems they're not talking about because they've mentioned things to me privately that contradict what they say in the group.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A group designed for mutual support has developed norms that prevent the very honesty it was meant to foster.
