When remote teams lose connection and collaborative spirit

Our startup team of six has been remote for two years and we've developed this culture where everyone just figures things out on their own and we barely talk in meetings anymore. The work gets done but I feel like we're six people working in parallel rather than a team and when I try to bring people together for real collaboration everyone seems annoyed by it like I'm wasting their time.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A group has optimized for individual efficiency at the expense of collective intelligence and no longer knows how to work together.
