When co-founders disagree on hiring decisions for key roles

We've been conducting interviews for a senior role and my co-founder keeps pushing candidates I have serious concerns about while dismissing the ones I think would be excellent and we're both acting like this is about 'cultural fit' when really we just have completely different ideas about what leadership looks like. I can feel us getting entrenched in our positions instead of figuring out what we actually need.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Two people are using hiring criteria as a proxy battle for deeper disagreements about organizational direction and leadership philosophy.
