I talked a customer out of a loan today that would've counted toward my targets, because it would've buried her in debt she couldn't carry. My manager wasn't thrilled. But I've come to see the money people hand me as a trust, and I don't believe I have to choose between doing right by them and doing right by the bank.
More people experience this than they realize.
You steward customers' money as a trust, holding their good and the bank's as one duty.
