The monitor screamed, the room filled with people, and I just stood there. I know the steps on paper, but when the patient actually coded, I couldn't remember whether I was on compressions, on the airway, or supposed to be calling it out. Someone finally said "you, chest, now," and I moved, hating that I'd frozen when it counted.
